Fan engagement is a trend increasingly on the rise in the modern sport landscape and clubs are more and more taking initiatives to engage fans outside of the local area to make their supporting experience as exciting as those who can attend matches.
Real Madrid are the latest club to do so as they have thrust themselves into the future of technology, being the first sports club to launch a virtual reality app. Giving fans the experience of a virtual tour of the Santiago Bernabéu and going one step further, allowing them to communicate with other fans in this virtual world.
More and more we see technology developing within sport, from golf course simulators to virtual advertising within the Bundesliga. It seems Real Madrid are the first to get out of the Virtual Reality blocks and got ahead of their football counterparts with this particular piece of tech.
As technology continues to improve it won't be long before this tech is even more advanced and we are able to be at the World Cup final from the comfort of our own living room. Could the future be virtual?
