With the consistent growth of Rugby League in England and the teams over achievements within the most recent World Cup (narrowly losing to the Aussies in the final) it seems that Bristols bid to host the World Cup is coming at the perfect time.
The Chairman of the Bristol Sonics is seeing this as a fantastic opportunity to grow the sport in the local area, in particular by increasing the participation of women in the sport. The subsequent legacy effect that major events can cause is what they will look to capitalise on and hopefully will reap the rewards for the future development of the Sonics and the sport in Bristol as a whole.
"We want to attract more world-class events to the city," a Bristol City Council statement said. "With the cycling grand prix happening later this year and the announcement of the Cricket World Cup coming to the city the year after, there is plenty to get excited about over the next two years."
