Could we reach a point where engineers, physicists and mathematicians walk the corridors of football training grounds alongside scouts? Or are we already there?

Sevilla Sporting Director, Monchi, believes we're reaching a point where engineers and physicists work with big data sets, driving decisions on signing players, and may be in more demand than scouts.

We're seeing more professional clubs building their data and research teams, tasked with modelling machine learning and analysis. Typically, such people come with PhDs and a strong grounding in maths and physics.
